GCG Wealth Management is all about ensuring the financial success of local businesses. They are deeply rooted in the Charlotte community and are involved with several businesses and non-profits. We spoke with Joel E. Burris, President and Managing Partner of GCG, about the upcoming Red Cap Jazz holiday event with the Jazz Arts Initiative.
The Jazz Arts Initiative is a non-profit collective of musicians, cultural arts patrons, and educators who share a vision for developing an audience for Jazz in Charlotte. They host a lot of cool events in the community, from workshops where young musicians can hone their skills, to interactive jazz assemblies at local schools. They also provide local talent an opportunity to perform through their Affiliate Musicians program.
What began as a personal appreciation of jazz for Burris is now a professional relationship with JAI that’s been going on for five years. “I love all types of music and jazz is one of my favorite genres,” said Burris. “The more I learned about the organization and what Lonnie and O.C. were doing, the more I felt it just spoke to us here at GCG.”
This year, the Red Cap Jazz Holiday Concert will be held on December 13th at the Booth Theater. Doors open at 6:30, and the show starts at 7pm. During a time of giving, what better way is there to relish in the holiday season than to attend a community-building concert that features local talent? They will be set up in a speakeasy-type jazz room and are featuring the music of the Vince Guaraldi Trio (the familiar sounds sprinkled all throughout A Charlie Brown Christmas). The Christmas classics we all know are great for sing-along purposes, but renditions created by saxophones, trumpets, clarinets and other members of the jazz family truly transform the sound into a new, smoother experience. Tickets are limited, but those who are unable to attend the show are still encouraged to donate.
Burris and JAI are looking forward to seeing you at the concert. Donations can be made directly to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte at 1613 East Morehead Street, or at www.rmhofcharlotte.org. Just mention that it is for the Red Cap Jazz Event!
